OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Goes Behind the Scenes for the 100th Episode!

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Goes Behind the Scenes for the 100th Episode!

The Real Housewives of Orange County celebrates its 100th episode tonight! In honor of this milestone, we talked to current star and OK! advice columnist Heather Dubrow to get a behind-the-scenes look at the show. “It’s amazing that Real Housewives of Orange County is at 100 episodes!” says Heather. “The franchise is a huge part of pop culture and I’m just really proud to be a part of it.”

OK! News: Happy 100th episode! See OK!’s best RHOC exclusives.

OK!: Why did you want to join the show?

Heather Dubrow: I really didn’t. Obviously, Terry did a lot of reality television with The Swan and Bridalplasty. It just didn’t seem like something that was right for me. However, we were going around town pitching a completely different show. We met Evolution, the production company that produces the Real Housewives of Orange County and Beverly Hills, and they called me after the meeting. I was like oh, no, no, no, no. I had heard the girls in Orange County were mean and threw wine at each other and all this terrible stuff.

OK!: What convinced you?

HD: Terry didn’t speak to me for basically two weeks. [laughs] He understood the platform it gives you. It’s very good for your business. For me, I was concerned that it was going to be the final nail in the coffin that used to be my career. As it turns out, work begets work, exposure begets exposure. I’ve gotten really great scripted TV gigs from having been on this show. At the end of the day, I have to say that I’m pretty thankful.

OK!: What concerns did you have about filming?

HD: I am a very sensitive person. People might not know that about me because I am very direct, but I get my feelings hurt really easily, and I have a hard time hearing what people say about me behind the scenes. You shouldn’t hear everything your friends say about you in their head.

Watch: RHOC‘s Gretchen Rossi shares why she wishes the show were fake!

OK!: Do you tire of being the Miss FancyPants Heather all the time? Are you surprised that’s your persona on the show?

HD: See, I don’t really think I am. You always put your best foot forward, to be your best self. I’m still relatively new friends with a lot of the girls and that’s how you behave until you know people very, very well.

OK!: When you met the girls, who did you connect with most easily?

HD: I definitely connected with Tamra first. I was scared of her because I had heard that she was the mean one—whatever that means. But we hit it off immediately. She started showing me pictures of her kids. She’s still my closest friend on the show for sure.

OK!: Does the group turn it on more when they are filming?

HD: I definitely believe the camera heightens things. When you get a lot of women together in a group, and there’s cameras on, and there’s alcohol poured, and emotions are running high to begin with, that’s how it gets explosive.

OK!: What’s the hardest part of sharing your life on TV?

HD: This may cause some waves, but I will say this. Even though it’s difficult to watch, I show everything. This season, Terry and I showed some difficult times in our relationship. I loved the feedback from the audience that it was very relatable. What I do have a problem with is when you get wind of other people on your show that are showing what they want to show so they can project a certain image or sell products. That I find annoying. If you’re going to be on a reality show, show your reality. Or else, let’s script it and let me get my SAG insurance back, because that would be helpful.

OK!: Are there certain things that are off limits for you?

HD: The only thing that’s clearly off limits to me would be anything in the bedroom. [laughs] I don’t think that’s appropriate. We’re not that family that’s top secret. We’re not hiding any deep, dark anything.

OK!: Have you learned anything about yourself from watching yourself on TV?

HD: I’ve learned to relax about my looks. Having been on scripted television, and being married to a plastic surgeon, and living in southern California, all of those things put pressure on a gal. [laughs] You read people’s comments on the blogs about you, and some people think you’re gorgeous and some people think you look like the Joker. I learned to relax and just be happy for what God’s given me and Botox has helped me enhance.

‘Real Housewives’ Week In Review: Tamra Barney’s Wedding Jeweler Robbed, Porsha Stewart Gets Spousal Support and More

‘Real Housewives’ Week In Review: Tamra Barney’s Wedding Jeweler Robbed, Porsha Stewart Gets Spousal Support and More

Although Tamra Barney’s wedding was the big Housewives news this week, our other favorite ladies just couldn’t seem to keep themselves out of the headlines. Yes, some of the other gals’ stories did directly involve Tamra’s wedding, but what can we say? It was one of the biggest social events in Housewives history!  In case you missed what everyone else was up to in the midst of wedding pictures, tweets, etc., we’ve got you covered with our Week In Review!

OK! News: Tamra Barney’s Spin-Off Gets a Premiere Date

As you know, Tamra Barney became Mrs. Eddie Judge over the weekend, but unfortunately her week was not solely filled with happniess. Tamra posted on Facebook that her friend Brian, the owner of Nuggets & Carats jewelry store (the one she borrowed her wedding jewels from), was robbed at gunpoint. Tamra pleaded for the people responsible to be caught, but so far they are still out and about. Scary stuff!

Heather Dubrow was in Hawaii on a family vacay and, as per usual, the housewife took to her Twitter account to post gorgeous pics and videos from her trip. Check out this Vine of Heather’s daughter Katarina looking oober adorable!

OK! News: Is Rachel Zoe Pregnant With Baby Number 2?

In other yet not-so-nice wedding-related news, a judge issued Porsha Stewart temporary spousal support from ex-husband Kordell Stewart after a surprising and messy divorce. Kordell was ordered to give Porsha $5000 a month and either return her belongings or pay for them to be moved to a storage facility. Although rumors swirled that Porsha was actually faking her divorce, this clearly shows that the situation is real and obviously very sad. We’re pulling for you, Porsha!

People have been questioning the realness of reality television since the days of Laguna Beach, and recently a witness revealed that there was nothing real about the RHONY filming a scene for their upcoming season. The witness saw Carole Radziwill and Heather Thomson wait for the crew to yell ‘rolling’ as well as film their scene twice. While we don’t think this will dramatically deter people from watching, it kinda makes you wonder what’s been real and what hasn’t.

Anyone remember Danielle Staub from Real Housewives of New Jersey? Who are we kidding…of course you do! Well, if you remember, Danielle was in the process of selling her house during seasons one and two of the show, and guess what? She’s still trying. Her house, which was originally priced at $1.45 million, is now on the market as a short sale for $899,000 due to the condition of the home. Anyone up for going to an open house?

What We Learned From Last Night’s ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’

What We Learned From Last Night’s ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’

Oh boy, Lydia wants to plan a salsa get-together with the ladies. Whenever the OC women get together in one room fireworks usually ensue so I’m skeptical. Her first order of business isn’t securing a venue, it’s bringing Heather and Alexis together. Heather agrees to meet with Alexis to try to make amends, but looks like she’d rather poke both of her eyes out.

OK! News: 7 Most Surprising Moments From This Week’s Episode of ‘The Bachelorette’

Now that Vicki and Tamra are buddies again, we see Gunvalson trot into Tamra’s office to show off their new Wines by Wives vino. Vicki proceeds to reiterate to Tamra the many reasons she doesn’t like Gretchen, namely because she’s self-centered and wants everything to be about her. This is verrrry interesting coming from a woman who seems to make everything about herself. Then they dabble in some Brooks talk. Yadda Yadda.

Heather meets up with Alexis for coffee. I have a feeling Alexis is expecting the same sort of 180 turnaround from Heather that she shockingly received from Tamra, but Heather isn’t budging. She wants to be civil and move on, but she’s not about to give Alexis an apology (and I’m still trying to figure out what Alexis wants an apology for—how did Heather wrong her?). We flash back to the reunion where we revisit one of my favorite Heather one-liners, “If everyone says you’re dead, it’s time to lie down.”

Watch: Gretchen Rossi Opens Up About Frienship With Alexis Bellino

Gretchen has a heart-to-heart with her mom about Slade and their future. G asks the dangerous question of whether or not her parents would approve of them having a baby and getting married. After an awkward hesitation, mom says yes and everyone’s happy, for now…

Cut to Briana, Ryan and baby Troy over at Casa Gunvalson. Little Troy in his camo jammies are killing me. That kid is adorable. Ryan is leaving the next day and will be deployed to Afghanistan after combat training so it’s a sad night. Vicki offers to help however she can. I like this Vicki and feel for Briana and Troy. Briana has always been one of my favorite of the Housewives’ kids because she seems to level-headed.

Photos: Tamra Barney Marries Eddie Judge in Gorgeous Ceremony

Gretchen, Slade, Heather and Terry are headed to Lydia’s salsa party together, while Alexis and Vicki take a car of their own. With a little egging on from Heather and Gretchen, Terry calls Brooks to find out if he’s planning to salsa as well.

In her confessional interview, Lydia says she’s still trying to figure Gretchen out, unable to decide if she likes her or doesn’t want to have anything to do with her at all. When did this become pick on Gretchen season? Lydia is desperate to make everyone else friends but she’s going to gang up on G? And what was up with getting all defensive over Slade’s cheeseburger joke? Chillax, Lydia.

OK! News: Heather Dubrow Answers Your Burning Qs

Lauri Peterson’s in da house and I’m wondering how long it takes for a blowup between her and Vicki amidst the craziness she revealed to Gretchen two episodes ago.

Dum, dum, dummmm…Brooks arrives. Man, he creeps me out. Tamra bites her tongue to avoid drama with him. Lauri and Tamra mutter sleazy rumors about him to one another. This is not looking good for Vicki’s love tank.

OK! News: Catch Up With ‘The Biggest Loser’s’ Mike Dorsey

LOL Moment of the Night: When the gang is dancing and rotating salsa partners and Tamra says, “I got Brooks? What’s next? Jim Bellino?,” I can honestly say I literally laughed out loud. Amazing.

Gretchen and Slade get into it with Lydia. Slade revisits Lydia’s skinniness (why, Slade, why?) and Lydia accuses Slade of saying things that make people (Vicki) get surgeries (a nose job). The tide is turning, folks, and it’s leaving Gretchen and Slade behind.

What do you think of the shifts in friendship in the OC this season? Tell us in the comments below or tweet @OKMagazine.

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week

June 17, 2013 11:00 am0 comments
OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week
Real Housewives of Orange County star, mother, wife, and entrepreneur Heather Dubrow is dishing her best advice each week in our OK! column: Ask Heather!

Anyone who’s watched Real Housewives of Orange County has glimpsed Heather’s gorgeous home—you can also see it on her awesome website. She’s currently renting with her family while she builds a brand-new house, so we asked her all about decor!

OK!: What can you do to a place when you’re renting?

Heather Dubrow: I’ve had experience with this short term-rental and long-term rental. For me, if it’s less than a year, you do nothing. You just put your things in and you make do. Now if you’re gonna be in a rental long-term, like we’re going to be, I really feel like you have to make it homier or else I would find it depressing. We are painting so that the kids have special colors and their rooms feel like their rooms. I wouldn’t knock down a wall, but little touches make it really homey and livable.

OK!: How do you deal with the stress of a renovation?

HD: The best thing you can do is keep a sense of humor, because it is a limited time. Try to compartmentalize your home. If you’re renovating your kitchen, which is probably the most challenging thing to do while living in your house, you make a little temporary kitchen. You get a microwave and a George Foreman grill and a mini fridge and you make it work. Turn it into an adventure for the family.

OK! Exclusive: Read Heather’s tips for travel!

OK!: How often should you freshen up their decor?

HD: If you want to freshen up your house and you don’t have the budget to do it, little things go a long way. You can change the complete look of a room with pillows and accessories. What people may notice from my home is that I like a very neutral palate, but I add pops of color. It’s really fun just to get new pillows. Great style does not have to cost a lot of money. I am in Target all the time, and there are so many amazing designers that now design for Target and Kohl’s and Walmart that you can really get such fabulous things on a budget.

OK!: How can a person determine their decor style?

HD: The most important thing is to choose what you love. It doesn’t matter what people think, or if it goes together perfectly. If you choose pieces you love, they will go together. Life is long, you’re not married to the sofa. Don’t overthink it.

OK!: Where do you start when you’re decorating a large space?

HD: I like to start with one large piece. Let’s pick the bedroom, for example. In the bedroom, the focal point is clearly the bed. My husband and I have different tastes, as many couples do, so I said “Okay, let’s agree on the bed.” I gave him choices and he picked one and that’s what we went with. I worked around that. If you’re doing the living room, you start with the sofa.

Photos: See pics of Heather as a bridesmaid at Tamra’s wedding this weekend!

OK!: What’s a good way to fill in lots of open wall space without looking cluttered?

HD: I don’t like a cluttered look so I tend to use larger pieces rather than lots of small pieces but that’s a personal choice. I’ve seen people who have beautiful collections of smaller pieces on walls but I like the bigger looks. I also really like mirrors. They open up your room and it’s an inexpensive way to dress up your room.

OK!: What do you think of mirrored furniture? Are there any trends you love?

HD: I think the mirrored furniture trend is classic. It’s like leopard. I love leopard, and it comes in and out. If you use leopard and mirror appropriately, it’s a timeless look. Mirrored furniture is very old Hollywood, very elegant.

OK!: Are there certain things you hate?

HD: I don’t like unusable furniture. That’s something I really have a problem with. Like when someone says you’re not allowed to sit here, and it looks really delicate. My home is to entertain, so I think people should feel comfortable here.

OK! Exclusive: Watch this clip of tonight’s new episode of Real Housewives of the OC!

OK!: What’s your favorite room in your house, and why?

HD: Our master bathroom. Terry and I just hang out there when I’m doing my makeup or whatever. We have chairs and a fireplace and TV, and it’s really nice to hang out in there and talk about what happened that day.

11 Things We Learned From This Week’s ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’

11 Things We Learned From This Week’s ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’

On this week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County we get more Battle Bachelorette: Gretchen v. Vicki and a very brief dinner with Alexis and Jim…

OK! News: Get Amy Adams ‘Man of Steel’ Premiere Look

• The women haven’t been in Mexico 24 hours and Gretchen can’t contain the cah-razy Vicki gossip she learned from Lauri any longer, especially considering the way Vicki has hijacked Tamra’s bachelorette party. She spills the juicy deets to Heather as they sit dejected in the limo waiting for the other ladies, but Heather isn’t about to get in the middle of it. Keep it classy, HD!

• Vicki couldn’t be more thrilled she has caused drama. It’s really, really annoying. She then proceeds to pee on Tamra’s bed. And I thought it couldn’t get worse than the time Adrienne unapologetically left spray tan marks on Kyle’s white furniture on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Gross!

OK! News: Cat Deeley’s Yoga Pro Offers Energizing Tips

• Cue the limo ride from hell. Gretchen and Heather are understandably still ticked from last night while Lydia makes an off-handed comment about their drunken night being the best part of the trip. Not the kind of thing that’s going to smooth things over, Lyds!

• Vicki apparently hates the word hypocritical when Gretchen uses it to describe her and completely flips out. Keep using the word, G, keep using it. This scene is making my blood boil.

OK! News: Six Most Shocking Moments From This Week’s ‘Bachelorette’ Episode

• Vicki brings up “the bracelets” (her favorite joke about BFF charm bracelets that she throws around constantly) and Tamra is dunzo. She just wants everyone to be friends. Make no mistake, everyone is not going to be friends.

• Tamra and Gretchen have a heart-to-heart on the beach during which time T reveals to G that Vicki told her, “My plan worked,” regarding stealing time away from Gretchen the night before by partying with the other ladies without her.

Photos: 12 Fashion Finds For Your Workout Wardrobe

• Lounging poolside, Vicki tells Lydia that Gretchen should have more respect for her and think of her as a mentor. Really, Gunvalson? What kind of mentor? A mentor of shadiness?

• Shiz gets real back on the beach as Tamra opens up to Gretchen about her family history, suicidal thoughts and attempts why she is the way she is. Hate seeing Tamra cry but hope it helps the friends reconnect.

• Look—it’s Alexis! She and Jim debate having another baby. Alexis wants one, Jim wants to wait. Moving on…

OK! News: How I Survived a Trip To the Hamptons With ‘Princesses: Long Island’

• The bachelorette party regroups for dinner and everyone seems to be getting along…for now. Raunchy gifts are given and Lydia bows out before the strippers arrive.

• Stripper madness ensues. Things get interesting. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Lydia is really happy she skipped out.

Next week it looks like we’re in for some discord while dancing and drama between Alexis and Heather. Until then…

Are you Team Gretchen or Team Vicki? Who do you think makes a better friend for Tamra? Tell me in the comments below or tweet @OKMagazine.

13 Things We Learned From Last Night’s ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’

13 Things We Learned From Last Night’s ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’

The Orange County ladies are heading south of the border for Tamra’s bachelorette party and it’s making me really anxious. Confession: I had a similarly horrible experience at a friend’s bachelorette in which I was very much the Gretchen/Heather, stood up at a party I planned because other friends of the bride had ulterior motives. So I’m going into this episode annoyed, and my anger is directed at Vicki before I’ve even seen the drama unfold. Here’s what I picked up from this episode from start to finish:

Watch: Gretchen Rossi Offers Advice to the Cast of ‘Princesses: Long Island’

• This week new girl Lydia thinks Tamra is the one who should “make that bold move” to smooth things over with Alexis. I swear last week she said the same thing concerning Alexis, something about it being what God has called them to do, be the bigger person. Lydia thinks she’s the Friendship Whisperer but I think she’s a glutton for punishment.

• I also learn that Tamra can put together quite the cheese plate. Look at that thing! Amazing!

• Tamra suddenly has a breakthrough thinking maybe she should have more compassion for Alexis. She admits the speech she gave at the women’s conference made her realize that the younger version of herself actually has a lot in common with the woman she once referred to as “Jesus Jugs.” We’re really seeing a kinder, gentler T!

Photos: Inside Kim Kardashian’s Baby Shower

• Gretchen and Heather planning Tamra’s bachelorette party is kind of like watching a very special episode of The Odd Couple. Heather has an art gallery visit in mind. Gretchen wants strippers, strippers and more strippers. Heather wants to design a more tasteful swimsuit for Tamra while G thinks the skimpier the better.

• Alexis reveals to Vicki that Tamra has summoned her to lunch for a talk. Vicki is obsessed with the idea of besties and “the bracelet thing” (meaning a best friend bracelet like the kind you can get at your nearest Claire’s location). This is supposed to be funny. It’s not. If she says “the bracelet thing” one more time I might scream. Get over it, Vic, get over it, please.

OK! News: Check Out OK!’s Ask Heather Advice Column With Heather Dubrow

• Lydia drinks lemon drops in the middle of the day—thatta girl!

• Holy shmoly—Alexis and Tamra are really having a breakthrough. Has hell frozen over? Do those lemon drops have magic fairy dust sprinkled in them? Lydia is way too proud of herself but I’m skeptical.  This truce can’t last for very long.

• Well, well, well, look who we have here —former OC Housewife Lauri Peterson. Lauri, who hooked up with Gretchen’s fiancé Slade once upon a time, drops a major Vicki bombshell, telling Gretchen she’s never known Vicki to be with just one person. “I know a lot about Vicki,” Lauri warns in a confessional. “I know where the bones are buried. She better watch out.” Cut to a story about Vicki allegedly being caught in bed with a woman and a man. Lauri tells Gretchen she’s never told anyone about this, implying G should keep her mouth shut. But she’s saying it in front of the RHOOC cameras. Lauri’s worried about Gretchen telling people about this? How about Bravo, Lauri?

Photos: 20 Hot ‘Real Housewives’ Looks

• Gretchen looks like she is packing the entire Hustler store for a two-night trip to Mexico. Customs is going to have a field day with this suitcase.

• Once in Mexico we learn Vicki apparently runs Puerto Vallarta because she’s been going there since she was 21. And if she doesn’t whoop it up, someone’s ass is on the line. Because everyone whoops it up in Mexico. That’s why people go to Mexico. To whoop it up. So you better whoop it up, got it?

• Lydia is adorably appalled when G pulls out a rainbow-colored penis-shaped lollipop for Tamra. Asking, “Aren’t we pillars of the community?” Lady, I don’t know who you think you’re in a limo with, but there are no pillars here. I’ll give you Heather, she classes up the joint. The others may be entertaining and fun, but pillars of the community they are not. The Newport Beach Junior League meeting is thattaway, sister. With all due respect, this is Bravo, not PBS.

Watch: Why 30 Wasn’t The Most Confident Age For Amy Adams

• You can’t take these women anywhere nice, Heather. You know it. I know it. But I appreciate your optimism in trying. No one likes Café Des Artistes except Heather, and the way Gretchen is poking at the shrimp on her plate reminds of the first Sex and the City movie when Charlotte refuses to eat anything but shelf-stable pudding in Mexico because she’s terrified of getting food poisoning.

• Vicki still wants to whoop it up and won’t take no for an answer, and this is when I start seeing red. She leads Tamra and Lydia off to par-tay while Gretchen and Heather use the ladies room. They’re left in the limo wondering where the girls are while V smugly and drunkenly dances her way to Andales, the bar she has not stopped talking about since they arrived in Mexico.

Do you think the housewives can put differences aside to have a good time in next week’s ep? Tell me in the comments below or tweet @OKMagazine.

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week

Real Housewives of Orange County star, actress, mother, wife, and entrepreneur, Heather Dubrow, is dishing her best advice each week in our OK! column: Ask Heather!

Last week Heather solved your beauty conundrums and this week she’s tackling all of your reader q’s—read on for her pearls of wisdom…

20 Hot Real Housewives Fashion Looks!

OK!: If you weren’t on the show, do you think you’d be friends with the other ladies?

Heather Dubrow: I never met these girls before the show, so we didn’t run in the same circles necessarily, but just like you meet people working in your office and you become friends with them, situationally, they then become your friend. So I don’t know if I would have met them otherwise, but we’ve become real friends.

OK!: How you keep your poise when chaos is around you?

HD: I try to remain calm and speak slowly, clearly, and effectively. I think sometimes it comes off as cold, but I’m not comfortable talking about very personal issues in a group setting, and I try to be as methodical about it as I can. Breathing is good too.

OK!: What’s your best advice for a college student?

HD: I think everyone should get a college education and the most important thing to do when you’re in college is to take as many varied classes as you can. Try to get a little taste as of much as possible because it’s a really great time to try things on and see how they fit you. You never know what’s going to spark something within you. Maybe you thought you were going in one direction in life and you go to college and you can take all different kinds of classes.

Read Heather’s Best Beauty Advice!

OK!: If you hadn’t pursued acting, which other career path might you have chosen?

HD: I was a musical theater major, but if I could do it again I would have gone to school for liberal arts. One thing that interests me now that I think I would have enjoyed is architecture—I love architecture.

OK!: What’s going on with the new house?

HD: We have the house pretty much designed—I’m so excited about it! We did some really cool things that we couldn’t do in the last house because of the shape and size of the home, and it is just really fun. Terry and I are having a lot of fun doing it together.

OK!: Which other housewife do you consider the most genuine?

HD: I have a really nice relationship with all the girls on the show and everyone is a human being. We all have our moments and say things we don’t mean, but I think in general all the girls are nice, genuine people.

OK!: Are you close with any of the Housewives from other shows?

HD: I just shot the Summer by Bravo commercial with Lisa Vanderpump, Lilly Ghalichi, and Kyle Richards and we laughed a lot, so that was a really fun day.

OK!: What’s the best way to tell someone about their poorer qualities—in a group setting or one-on-one?

HD: When we were in Costa Rica last year, Alexis brought up everything at the table and I think my comment was, I would rather do this alone, but since you brought it up, we started talking. Clearly, I should have followed my instincts and said let’s not talk about this right now, let’s do it later. One-on-one is always best. I think you’ll see that I follow my own advice as the season goes on.

12 Things We Learned From ‘RHOOC’ Episode 9

12 Things We Learned From ‘RHOOC’ Episode 9

It’s hard to get too light-hearted over this week’s Real Housewives of Orange County episode because there was some seriously intense stuff going on. Between Tamra’s shocking personal revelations and Ryan’s deployment, the ladies are opening up about some tough stuff. Let’s review the serious first and then lighten the mood as we go along:

OK! News: Is Jennelle Evans Pregnant Again?

Tamra has a fear of public speaking.

Tamra Barney isn’t afraid to speak her mind…just don’t ask her to speak it in front of a big, live audience. Our formerly fearless OC gal confronts her phobia at the Los Angeles Women’s Expo as their keynote speaker, a gig her business partner agreed to on her behalf. Mental note for T: Find new business partner.

Tamra attempted suicide in her twenties.

Wow, this I was not expecting. During her speech, Tamra opens up about her low self-esteem, failed marriages and the time she attempted to take her life by swallowing a bunch of prescription pills. Props to her for sharing such a private struggle with so many, and doing it during a speech she was terrified to give no less.

Watch: Will Kanye West Attend Kim Kardashian’s Baby Shower?

Ryan is going back to Afghanistan.

Briana’s husband is being deployed again for 11 months, meaning he’ll be away from Baby Troy for nearly a year and miss lots of special milestones.

Briana is terrified to leave Troy for a night.

With Briana and Ryan heading out to the Marine Ball, Grandma Vicki is in charge of Troy. Like any new mom, Briana is worried leaving the little guy for the night will mean she misses something major…like walking.” If that kid started walking at six weeks old, I would personally stand atop the Welcome to Orange County sign off the 5 freeway and scream, “Woo-hoo!,” in honor of Vicki.

Watch: Scarlett Johansson Is Up For a Big Role!

They appear to only drink out of wine glasses in Orange County.

The show opens with Heather visiting Tamra to catch up post Hot in Cleveland and blowup  with Terry. The ladies are drinking what looks like water out of huge wine glasses. Has no one in the OC heard of everyday glassware? Two words and an ampersand, people: Crate & Barrel.

Terry takes Heather to the Surf & Sand for the first time.

If my reality TV history is correct, the Surf & Sand is where LC and Lo held their black and white party back in high school on Laguna Beach. Now it’s the site of Terry’s “Forgive Me For Being an Ass Hat” dinner, which he executes beautifully.

Watch: Tyler Baltierra Admits He’s Not Sure He Wants to Marry Catelynn Lowell

Terry knows his way around a Hallmark store.

He might dub nearly any household chore women’s work, but Dr. Dubrow is a master greeting card chooser when it’s time to say, “I’m sorry.” Seriously loving he chose to get out of the doghouse with a simple card and loving words as opposed to some expensive, over-the-top gift. Take note other Housewives hubs!

Lydia knows how to chop an onion…seriously.

Lydia’s mom Judy is baffled that her daughter knows how to cut an onion, but the newest OC housewife insists her husband Doug taught her. Apparently knowing how to chop an onion is a really big deal.

OK! News: Jet-Setting Baby Bumps—How Much Travel Is Safe?

Lydia was too busy learning how to scatter flower petals to learn about lasagna.

Lydia and Judy set out to have a bonding afternoon over some lasagna making, during which the magazine entrepreneur admits she never learned to cook the Italian dish growing up because her mom wanted her to have fun, “like picking petals off flowers and throwing them into the air.” Isn’t that flower cruelty from the Flower Fairy?

Lydia think Alexis should man up regarding the other women.

As church-going housewives, Lydia thinks Alexis should be the bigger person and take the first step towards making amends with the rest of the cast, namely Tamra. “That’s what we’re called to do,” says Lydia. Ah…so new, so naïve.

OK! News: Farrah Abraham Reveals Shocking Birthday Plans

Brooks’ home is really…green.

Are those mint green walls and hunter green armchairs in Brooks’ place? I really hope my TV is deceiving me. If not, get in their Gunvalson and do something about this.

Gretchen’s reproductive parts are “lush.”

TMI, Gretch, TMI. But I am happy to hear that this baby making hurdle shouldn’t be a problem.

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week

Real Housewives of Orange County star, actress, mother, wife, and entrepreneur, Heather Dubrow, is dishing her best advice each week in our OK! column: Ask Heather!

Last week Heather solved your tech queries and this week she’s tackling all of your beauty q’s—read on for her pearls of wisdom…

Photos: 20 Hot Real Housewives Fashion Looks!

OK!: How has your beauty style evolved over the years?

Heather Dubrow: Beauty trends for yourself have a lot to do with your stage in life. When I first had a baby, there were a lot of ponytails and more of a natural look and as I started getting older it’s allowed me a little more time to put on makeup in the morning. I experimented a lot more in my 20s and 30s. Since I’ve gotten to 40, I think I’m always looking for a makeup look that I really like and I stick with that palette for quite some time.

OK!: Your signature right now seems to be this flawless, smoky eye and glossy lip—what did it used to be?

HD: I went through a phase where I did a very strong lip, which I think you can do more when you’re younger. I think it’s a really good idea for people to take pictures before they go out and see what they like about the their hair, makeup—the balance of the whole thing.

OK!: What’s the best trick you’ve ever learned from a makeup artist?

HD: A makeup artist told me to use Wet ‘n Wild #666 lip liner and it’s the greatest. I line my lips with it and lightly color them in and then I use any gloss over it. I don’t wear lipstick. I wear liner and gloss. It looks great on any skin tone and that was the best.

OK!: What about hair? Any hair stylist tips you’ve adopted?

HD: My biggest thing about hair care is trim, trim, trim. There’s nothing more unattractive that a woman with long hair that’s scraggly at the ends. Just because it’s long, doesn’t make it pretty. Taking three inches off and keeping the ends beautiful is the way to go.

OK!: What’s your advice for taking care of your skin in your twenties verses your thirties and forties?

HD: I think that simple is best. A very simple cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen. First of all, our skin gets a little dryer as we get older, so you may need a little more moisturizer or a different kind of moisturizer. People also tend to develop adult problem skin. Your skin can change and I think it’s really important to be in tune with it and be careful in case you have oily patches, not to over moisturize or dry it out with with blemish creams.

OK!: You are always on camera, so what are your thoughts on HD makeup?

HD: I do use Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder—I think it’s excellent. If you keep adding a colored powder or a heavy powder over your makeup you’re going to look cakey by the end of the day, but a light HD powder will really take the shine off and refresh you. I also think that blotting papers are terrific.

OK!: What do you splurge on beauty wise?

HD: I do get massages from time to time and I do get facials in my husband’s office. I love those.

OK!: What are the top five beauty products you can’t live without? —@livelovedesign8

HD: Cetaphil soap, Wet ‘n Wild #666 lip liner, L’Oreal Elnett hairspray, my collection of Chanel lip glosses, and Tom Ford eye shadow palettes.

OK!: Who is your beauty icon?

HD: Jackie O.

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week
Real Housewives of Orange County star, actress, mother, wife, and entrepreneur Heather Dubrow is dishing her best advice each week in our OK! column: Ask Heather!

Last week Heather solved your wardrobe must-have queries and this week she’s tackling your appropriate texting q’s—read on for her pearls of wisdom…

Photos: 20 Hot Real Housewives Fashion Looks!

OK!: What are the top 5 places you should never text?

Heather Dubrow: A funeral, wedding, first date, therapy session, and at your kid’s performance or game.

OK!: What are the DOs and DONT’s of tech when it comes to relationships?

HD: You don’t hear someone’s tone through texting and emailing, so there’s a chance of being taken the wrong way that needs to be taken into consideration. However, I do feel that sometimes sending your partner an email or a text allows them to think about it and digest it before responding, rather than giving a major reaction. In general you should be careful about what you put in writing—I always assume that someone else will somehow get ahold of it and read it, which probably isn’t true, but you should realize that once you put something down in writing whether it’s a text or an email, there’s a danger that someone else is going to read it.

OK!: What’s appropriate to say over text when you’re beginning to date someone?

HD: I think texting, especially beginning dating texting, should be about the plans for when you’re getting together and thank you’s for a great time. Keep the getting to know you conversation for face-to-face.

OK!: What do you do when texting relationships become inappropriate?

HD: A texting relationship is still a relationship, so there’s nothing innocent about that. Just because you’re not on the phone, doesn’t mean you’re not communicating with them. You have to realize that when you’re in a committed relationship and you’re texting inappropriately or a lot with a co-worker, someone of the opposite sex, or someone you’re attracted to, it’s inappropriate and it needs to be stopped. If you feel like you have to hide your text messages from your partner you’re doing something wrong.

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Mother’s Day Q’s!

OK!: When is it OK to send invitation via text? —@ttracyh

HD: I’ve always been a traditionalist, but for the first year ever I sent electric invitations for my kid’s party. My feeling is that if it’s for a child’s birthday party or let’s get together for drinks with the girls, I think it’s completely acceptable to send an electronic invite and there are so many great ones—I love Paperless Post. However, when you’re sending out a baby announcement, when you’re getting married, when you’re throwing an elegant party like a baby shower for someone, send an invitation. Not only is it elegant, but it gives the people that are closely involved a keepsake from the event.

OK!: What are your tips for sending unique invites?

HD: I was just talking with Tamra about her wedding invitations and we came up with something really fun, which I can’t tell you, but I WILL tell you about my baby shower invite. It was so amazing since it was a full-sized baby bottle filled with pink and blue jellybeans since I was having boy/girl twins and the invitation label was on the bottle. It was so adorable. I love doing fun invitations and you know what, the thing about an invitation is it sets the tone for the event. So when you get a fabulous invitation and you open it and you go, “Oh my gosh this is so cool, I can’t wait to go this party.”

OK!: What is the proper way to answer a home phone? —@Alicat1312

HD: However you want to answer is fine, but it needs to be polite. Short, simple, and elegant is the best way to go.

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Mother’s Day Q’s!

Real Housewives of Orange County star, actress, mother, wife, and entrepreneur Heather Dubrow is dishing her best advice each week in our OK! column: Ask Heather!

Last week Heather solved your relationship queries and this week she’s dishing her best advice for Mother’s Day in a special column—read on for her pearls of wisdom…

Photos: 20 Hot Real Housewives Fashion Looks!

OK!: What’s the best Mother’s Day gift you’ve ever received?

Heather Dubrow: My four kids—that’s the best gift ever. I’m so blessed. It may sound silly, but the four best presents are my kids.

OK!: And what do you like to give to your mom?

For my mother, my aunt (who is like a second mother to me), and my sister, I have my photographer make these little books with funny pictures of the kids and the family members. It’s sort of a collage of photos of us. It’s a really fun thing because it’s something they can throw in their purse or keep in their drawer and if they’re missing us, they’ve got pictures!

News: Heather’s Advice on Relationships

OK!: We recently met Terry’s mom on the show—what are your ideas for mother-in-law gifts?

HD: The best thing about giving a gift is giving something that you know the other person will want. With that said, I am not a big proponent of giving flowers on Mother’s Day. It’s not that I don’t like flowers, but I like to give something that lasts. So if I do give flowers, I prefer to give a beautiful orchid plant that stays around for a long time. Another thing I love giving is restaurant gift certificates or tickets to a show. It’s like giving an evening out, which is so great. There are so many fun experiences you can give to someone.

OK!: How will you be spending this Mother’s Day?

HD: I’m going to spend the morning with the kids at the house and then we’re having lunch at one of my favorite restaurants with the whole family that’s in town. Then, we’re going to come home and put the baby down for a nap and I’m taking myself for a massage. I figure I have my beautiful day with my family and then some alone time in the afternoon. After I put the kids to bed, Terry will usually take me out and the two of us will do a quick sushi meal and just have a little alone time.

OK!: What are never-go-out-of-style items that you should always have in your closet? —@lori_antone

Heather Dubrow: One great black blazer, a pair of dark denim jeans, a very simple black skirt, a black dress, and a pair of black ballet flats. You want pieces that you can wear over and over again and change the look of them with your accessories.

OK: And any particular brands that you love for ballet flats?

HD: Personally, I love Chanel and Valentino, but there are so many great designers that now design for places like Target, Kohls, and Walmart. Also H&M and Ann Taylor have great stuff. The thing is, when you go to look for a piece, you have to look at how it’s constructed.

OK!: I have a lot of dark blue jeans in my closet. Which wardrobe staples can I pair with them? —@Jensosinfull

HD: Dark denim is a neutral, so you can put on a silk blouse and heels and fabulous jewelry and go out. Or you can wear flats, a cute t-shirt, and a little black blazer and dress it down. I love the trend of putting leather pieces on jeans too.

News: Heather’s Advice on Relationships

OK!: How do you incorporate color into your wardrobe?

HD: I’m trying to incorporate more colors for myself, but when I incorporate color, I look best in jewel tones. I think people should wear colors that make them happy.

OK!: Which three staples should you splurge on and which three should you save on? —@bravosphere

HD: A great handbag—like a medium-sized bag for day or night. Black ballet flats—I live in mine and if you take care of them, you can wear them for years. Lastly, a good watch. It doesn’t have to be an expensive watch, it just has to be attractive. There are so many great watches out there. Michael Kors makes great watches. I like a simple face with a leather strap; that’s a timeless watch.

OK!: And the three that you would save on?

HD: A maxi dress for summer, flat sandals, and a beach bag. I feel like those three items always end up being one season items.

OK!: What was your biggest fashion splurge?

HD: I did small work acting work when I was in high school and I saved the money and I bought myself a Chanel belt.

OK!: Which accessories would you consider to be staples?

HD: I think everyone should have a pair of diamond studs and honestly, if you cant afford the real deal, the fakes look just as good. Bangles are always great in gold or silver, a simple gold or silver chain you can put around your neck and a pair of hoops is good too.

OK!: Which three items in your own closet could you not live without?

HD: My black Chanel toggle coat, my Valentino tote bag that’s camouflage with red accents, and my collection of Hermes scarves. They are just so beautiful—it’s like wearing a work of art.

OK!: What’s one item that people would be surprised to find in your closet?

HD: Some of my pajamas. I change what I wear, but sometimes I like wearing those pajamas that look like men’s pajamas.

OK!: Do you have any great packing tips?

HD: I’m a little anal, but I make little lists of how many days we are going to be there. What we’re doing. And then I pack appropriately. Terry will make fun of me and will go, ‘Oh my gosh, Heather. What are you wearing on Tuesday at 3o’clock. I like to be prepared. I write a list of what I’m doing and pull outfits according to that. Then, I learn from my stylist to take pictures of everything. I’ll put outfits together with the shoes and the bag and the jewelry, and I will take a picture of it so I have I on my phone. After I’m done packing and I get there, I can just look at the picture. It makes it a lot easier to pack and makes it a lot easier to dress while you are there. I also wrap everything in white tissue and use shoe bags for my underwear, bras, swimsuits, etc.

Newbie Celeb Instagramers: Neil Patrick Harris, Ashley Greene, and Heather Dubrow

Not a day goes by where the OK! editors aren’t chatting about pics someone posted on Instagram. It’s gotten to the point where it’s a part of our daily schedules. Forget GTL—it’s all about the ESI. That would be “Eat. Sleep. Instagram” for those of you who aren’t fluent in the social picture-sharing app’s lingo.

OK! News: How Brody Jenner Will Improve Keeping Up With the Kardashians

Besides chatting about the yummy meals we all post to our accounts, we’re always ranting and raving about celebs’ Insta. posts. Have you seen Rihanna’s account? Double-click on those snapshots—they’re always goodies. But three other notable stars recently joined the Instagram crew, and, well, it’s got us super excited.

We were tickled pink when we found out that our advice columnist Heather Dubrow joined the ranks! She’s posted a ton of pics like this cutie hubby and wifey shot and one with Jenny McCarthy. Our fave so far has to be the sweet candid picture she snapped of her adorable kiddies.

Twilight star Ashley Greene is a fresh face to the crowd. Instagram should have been incorporated into the saga—it would have made it ten thousand times better. Picture this: Alice and her niece having a picnic in the woods, or a selfie from the celeb before she goes off and saves the day. She’s already jumped on #TBT. What we have here is an Insta. winner.

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week

Real Housewives of Orange County star, actress, mother, wife, and entrepreneur Heather Dubrow is dishing her best advice each week in our OK! column: Ask Heather!

Last week Heather solved your appropriate tipping queries and this week she’s tackling your relationship q’s—read on for her pearls of wisdom…

Photos: 20 Hot Real Housewives Fashion Looks!

OK!: It was great to see you open up about your own bullying experiences  on the show, but do you feel that all these realty shows are bringing more positive or negative light to the whole subject?

Heather Dubrow: I think that the subject of bullying is becoming very confused. You can be bullied at every age. It’s not just a childhood issue, although it happens more to children because—the thing about bullying is that bullying happens when you can’t extract yourself from. A kid has to go to school. If there is a bully on the playground, they have no way out. If you’re being bullied in your home by a partner or a parent, you have to go home. There’s no way out. You don’t have to go to a dinner party.

OK!: So the fans were very vocal after this week’s episode, is there anything else you want to clear up?

HD: People are entitled to their own opinions, but when people sit behind a computer with no photo on their feed like a coward, spewing venom and hate, then it’s cyber bullying. We all get those kinds of comments about our families, about our looks. You know, this show is here to entertain. It’s about our relationships. We are being paid to be vocal about each other and our opinions of each other. That’s our job. I think what’s interesting about these shows, is that social media is a part of the show. The interaction with the viewers and the opinions, it’s all a part of it. It’s the water cooler talk. I see the irony in the fact that the haters that are talking about some of us being bullies on the show are being cyber bullies. I’m sorry if you feel that way, but why would you then spew out that kind of venom.

OK!: My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary this November—should we renew our vows?

HD: Renewing vows is such a beautiful idea if that’s what both want. I think in general, anniversaries are for the couple, and I think it’s great. Whatever makes you happy I think it’s what you do. Celebrating 25 years of marriage is an incredible accomplishment, so why not celebrate it?

OK!: For my sister-in-law’s baby shower, her and her friend asked me if I wanted to come instead of just inviting me. What that flat out rude or am I being too sensitive?

HD: Blame it on the pregnancy hormones. That’s not the way that I’d like to be invited to a party, but it’s your sister-in-law and it’s her baby. Just go and let it go.

OK!: What do you do when the man you have spent the last 27 years with tells you he wants a divorce out of the blue?

HD: I think what I would do is try to ask him to go to therapy with you. Because at the very least, I think if this coming through fruition, you can get answers and the therapist can help you get to a better place. Because being blindsided like that, I can’t even imagine. You definitely need help. The two of you and you alone.

Which ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ Star Has the Best Walk-In Closet?

April 22, 2013 11:25 am0 comments

It was a hands-down unanimous decision by The Real Housewives of Orange County cast members. Heather Dubrow, in all her loveliness, wins the OKHousewives award for having the best walk-in closet. You would think that there would be more debating in a group of ladies as fashionable as they are, but Heather, who couldn’t make it out to our interview with the other OC girls, took the gold.

The shopping questions continued as we found out that Alexis and Lydia shop together. The ladies called out that Gretchen and Tamra always match, but thanks to Heather’s clambake, we already knew that they both have a thing for coral and white.

OK!’s ‘Ask Heather’ Advice Column: The ‘RHOC’ Star Answers Your Burning Q’s Every Week

Real Housewives of Orange County star, actress, mother, wife, and entrepreneur Heather Dubrow is dishing her best advice each week in our OK! column: Ask Heather!

Last week Heather solved your appropriate dressing queries and this week she’s tackling your gift giving q’s—read on for her pearls of wisdom…

OK!: What do you do if you see the person paying for the check left a bad tip? —@lori_antone

Heather Dubrow: Personally, I don’t really look to see what someone is doing, but if I’m with someone who is notoriously not a good tipper and it’s a place that I go to a lot, I may very quietly leave something on the side. There’s no reason to make someone else feel bad that they didn’t tip enough though.

OK!: What about when you are getting a mani/pedi—how much should you tip your manicurist? —@moon3077

HD: I think twenty percent will always work except if it’s a really inexpensive process like a manicure—sometimes the manicure can be five dollars and you’re not going to leave 50 cents. It really needs to be based upon what you are having done. If you are having your hair cut or colored, I think a twenty percent tip is appropriate. If you are getting a manicure or a pedicure, I would tip a little more.

OK!: What about if you are unhappy with any of your services? Should you still tip?

HD: I feel like you always tip. If the service is really terrible, you have to speak to manager and one would hope that they would comp one or all of your services, but personally I would still leave the gratuity.

OK!: How much should you write a check for as a wedding gift? —@lizezep

HD: I think it depends on where you live and who is getting married, but I don’t give cash gifts for weddings. I think buying a gift is a more appropriate, like something from their registry or a beautiful sterling picture frame. I don’t think that people should engrave things for wedding gifts though because typically you will get more than one item at times, and if everything is engraved, you can’t exchange it.

OK!: Do you prefer Terry to buy you something hinted at or surprise you? —@ttracyh

HD: One of the cutest things he did was Valentine’s day twelve years ago. I really wanted this gift and I hinted at it, but when we sat down at dinner he gave me a box that wasn’t the right shape. I opened it and it was something different, but he had this amazing story behind this gift, and I was so  appreciative that I forgot about that other gift. It turns out that he bought me that too, but Terry has great taste in jewelry, so I’m happy with whatever he gives me.

OK!: What’s the best way to “hint” at something you want from your guy?

HD: Put together a wish box—whenever you see something that you like, rip it out of your magazine or print it off your computer and put it in the box. That way, when your guy wants to get you something, he just has to go to the wish box. Make them from all different price points so if it’s just a little thing he wants to give you, there are all kinds of different things in the box.

OK!: How do you approach certain uncomfortable tipping situations within a group?

HD: My feeling is when you are going out with a group, you split the check. Period.

OK!: Do you prefer to give a gift card or an actual gift for friends & relatives? —@ttracyh

HD: I would never give gift cards except for two times, for teacher gifts and for boys around ages 8 to 12 because they like to be able to spend their own money. Other than that, I think a personal gift is always a better idea.
